I found out about your substack from some hater account a total loser called Matthew Lloyd Roberts who appears to be some kind of kitch-modernist apologetic who (surprise) is studying for a phd in architectural history and (surprise) posts his pronouns in his twitter bio. He hated on your column so instantly I knew it must be something worth looking at. This article was my first and I agree wholeheartedly - our role as architects/planners is to provide the stage which allows the 'actors' to enact the scene, helping to connect the different elements in our towns to create a localized and memorable experience. Don't pay attention to the smooth-brained modernists who hate tradition, western culture, and all things traditional (which we somehow threw out at WW2) - we should be proud of our inheritance and seek to foster it in the face of those nihilistic modernist haters who would only tear it down to replace it with some dystopian neo-future which would make us all simultaneously impoverished. Kudos on standing up to the faceless machine of degenerate modernism.
